Subaru Applications Now Available: 02-07 WRX /04-07 STi
Long overdue, PIC's WRX and STi applications are now available. Thorough evaluations of the GD/GG chassis's suspension were done in order to determine the most effective spring rates, damping, and lower mount designs for on-track performance.
Most notably, it was found that the cars' Macpherson strut layout both front and rear required relatively low spring rates for even the most dedicated track cars. The poor camber curve up front is improved upon with an adjustment of positive caster gain on the upper strut mount, made along with negative camber adjustment.
Like all other PIC Select applications, these Subaru applications feature 8 levels of damping adjustment, along with our top-notch, hand-picked components ensuring a long usable life and consistent track performance. Look for the PIC WRX / STi Select P1, R1, and R2's at a track near you in 2008, and contact us or your local Authorized PIC Dealer for more information.

In the Pipeline: PIC Performance / Pure Tuning Mitsubishi Evolution 8/9 Select Time Trial Coilovers

Work on the successor to the original PIC / Pure Select TSO coilovers setup continues, now dubbed the PIC / Pure Time Trial coilovers. The most recent testing put the Pure Tuning Evo 9 RS at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course for this year's NASA Nationals, in the TTS class. Competing against the likes of race-prepped C5 Corvette Z06's on this highly technical track, it was again clear that the best times would be found in the corners.

Equipped with a very early prototype of the Select TT's, the new Evo ran a best time of 1:35:541 for the weekend, nabbing them a 4th place finish in a pack of Z06's and one very quick Audi.

Based on the requirements of an even more potent track car, the Select TT is being designed primarily around a car with greater downforce, hence more grip and more power to overcome the drag increased drag. A Select TT equipped car will take what the original TSO car was and extend the limits of performance by making the most effective use of the car's new-found grip with increased spring rate both front and rear. To compliment the spring rates, slight adjustments will be made to the damping, including higher compression damping across the board, and an adjustment of low-to-high speed damping transitions for both compression and rebound courtesy of a new piston design.

Congratulations to the team at Pure Tuning, and driver Clifton Ching for their continued support of the PIC / Pure Select coilover program, and their aid in further developing our Evo applications. Track time against some of the stiffest competition in the country is the only true test of a high performance coilover, and for us the results are only getting better and better.
Expect more details on the Select TT's as development continues throughout the off-season and into early next year, with an anticipated release right on time with the start of next year's Midwest season.

2007 Tuner Shootout - Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch, NV
This year's Tuner Shootout took our turbo AWD competitors to Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch, just outside of Las Vegas, NV. Among the entries was the Mynes Performance Evo 9, equipped with a set of PIC Select R+ coilovers. The R+ designation marks these coilovers as a custom, one-off piece not intended for retail sale, their sole purpose being to make this particular Evo go around Spring Mountain Motorsports as fast as possible.

Posting a best lap time of 3:06 around the track, the Mynes Performance Evo took home second place honors at this year's competition. With little prep time, the Mynes team brought to the table a car with a host of unproven track parts, including a driver who's first time it was on PIC's coilovers. While other competitors' in the Modified class faced mechanical troubles throughout the event, the Mynes team not only managed to keep the game in the game, but consistently post the fastest times of the weekend, including faster and faster lap times as the sessions went on.
Congratulations to Mynes Performance on a strong and impressive finish Tuner Shoot-Out!

Cylindrical Thrust Bearing Option Now Available for Mac-Strut Applications
So just what is a Cylindrical Thrust Bearing?

So... just what is a Cylindrical Thrust Bearing?
On a Macpherson strut car, when the suspension compresses, the spring will want to twist and wind up between the pressure of the upper mount and spring perch. Given enough friction, the spring may bind if it is not allowed to rotate in reaction to this twisting force, and that can reduce the effectiveness and consistency of the spring. This will typically only be realized during track use, but the effects can be noticed on the street in the form of slightly increased drag in the steering, and some audible signs, neither of which affect performance or longevity of the coilovers, but are noticeable nonetheless.
To counteract this effect on Mac-strut cars, PIC has developed a bearing-like device that inserts between the upper mount and the spring itself, allowing freer rotation of the spring when it encounters this twisting force under compression, making for more consistent spring performance and easy steering inputs. This option is available for our Mitsubishi Evolution and soon to be released Subaru WRX/STi applications.
